Mount Kilimanjaro
This is Africa's highest mountain. It is 3% south of the equator and its summit is permanently snow clad.
As an extinct volcano it has three peaks, Kibo, the highest peak (5895 m), Mawenzi (5149 m) and Shira West (3962 m).
The area surrounding the mountain is a National Park and it frequented by blue and red colobus monkeys as well as man species of birds.
The mountain can be climbed through different routes: Shira, Machame, Umbwe, Mwika, Marangu and Rongai route.
An extra night for acclimatization is advised on any of the routes, about halfway the climb. Trekkings can be organized for 5 to 7 days.
It is also possible to do a one-day trekking to the first stage, for a 700 meter ascent of three to four h
Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb - Machame Route (6 days / 5 nights)
Day 1: Early departure and start walking through mountain forest to Machame hut, 3000m, for dinner and over night.
Day 2: After breakfast start slowly trekking. The path leads up through steep rock, enjoy superb views of Shira Plateau and land below and also you will see Mt.
Meru, another extinct volcano.
Dinner and overnight at Shira Hut (3840m).
Day 3: Depart Shira in the morning, taking the path which rises up gradually towards the Kibo dome, after reaching the wedge Buttress point the drop down to the Baranco Hut.
Dinner and overnight at Baranco Hut.
Day 4: Leave slowly crossing the floor of the great Baranco Valley and up the Baranco wall, continue the trek on the South Circuit path through the Karanga Valley.
(Last water point - Karanga river) then slowly trek to Barafu Hut (4600m).
From Barafu you will have excellent views of Kibo dome and Mawenzi peak.
Dinner and overnight Barafu hut.
Day 5: Early mid night start to conquer the highest point in Africa.
This section of the route is considered one of the steepest on the non technical path on this mountain between 4-7 hours to the peak (5896m) which is one hour from Stella point (5700m).
Then descend down to Mweka hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: An easy day walking to Mweka gate where a waiting vehicle transfers you to your hotel.
Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb - Marangu Route (6 days / 5 nights)
Day 1: 8:00 am pick up from hotel and drive to Marangu gate, then start walking through a thick rain forest which takes four hours to Mandara Hut, 2750m, for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: After breakfast proceed walking slowly following a path through the forest and then through the savanna bush to Horombo Hut (3,720m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: This is a day of acclimatization (a rest day) to allow time to explore an interesting area and increase the chance of making it to the peak and return to Horombo for overnight stay.
Day 4: A hard day climb to Kibo Hut 4703m, 6-7 hours crossing the barren sub-alpine terrain of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Needed to relax on arrival as the next stage begins shortly after midnight, this falls on day 5.
Day 5: Making a very early start at around 1:00 am follow the zig zag path up the scree stopping frequently to catch breath in this starlit air.
This is the steepest and most demanding section of the climb, takes five hours to Gillmans point (5681m).

Then walk further 45 minutes around the crater and up to the highest point UHURU peak, the roof of Africa.
Thereafter descending to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: This is a much easier day as you have the luxury of walking downhill on the way to the waiting vehicle at Marangu gate for transfer to your hotel (Arusha / Moshi).
Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb - Short Tour of Marangu Route (2 days / 1 night)
Day 1: 8:00 am. Pick clients from the hotel and drive to Marangu gate then start walking through a thick rain forest which takes four hours to Mandara Hut (2750M) for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: After breakfast proceed walking slowly following a path through the forest and then proceed waling down to the gate where a waiting vehicle will drive you to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.ours to 2700 meters.
Mount Meru
Arusha is near the foot of Mount Meru, which stands at 4566 m above mean sea level.
Mount Meru is Tanzania's second highest mountain. Hiking duration is 3-4 days.
Wonderful hiking through lush forest plus a dramatic and exhilarating section along the knife - edge crater rim make this a spectacular trek and ideal acclimatization for Kilimanjaro.
Mt. Meru Trekking (3 days / 2 nights)
Day 1: 9:00 leave Arusha for Momella gate where the trek starts.
On the way stop over for game watching at Serengeti Ndogo.
From Momella gate (altitude 1500m) ascend to Miriakamba hut (altitude 2500m) takes 3 hours.
Day 2: From Miriakamba hut ascend to Saddle hut it takes 4hours (3500m), At 8 afternoon trek to the summit of little Meru (3820m) which takes 45 minutes, then back to Saddle hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: 2:00 am. From Saddle hut ascend to the summit of Mt. Meru (4565m) and walk around the rim of Meru Crater.
Then return to Saddle hut for breakfast.
Walk down across alpine desert.
Lunch on the way.
A car waiting at Momella gate will drive you back to Arusha.
Ngorongoro Highlands
The Ngorongoro Highlands are a range of volcanoes rising steeply from the side of the Great Rift Valley in northern Tanzania.
Trekking in these Highlands is a fairly new activity, there are not established routes.
Most treks start just north of Ngorongoro Crater and head north via Olmoti and Empakaai to finish near Oi Doinyo Lengai.
Trekking duration is 3-8 days.
Ngorongoro Crater Highland Walking Safaris (8 days / 7 nights)
Day 1: Leave Arusha at 7:00vam for Ngorongoro 190km.
Crater Tour.
Dinner and overnight will be at Nainokanoka village.
Day 2: Leave Nainokanoka with donkeys plus your lunch box to Bulati village for your dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Leave in the morning to Empakai plus your lunch box dinner and overnight will be at the rim of Empakai crater.
Day 4: Morning Depart to Empakai crater to see Flamingos and Lake Empakai.
Later walk to Nayobi village.
Dinner and overnight will be at Nayobi school.
Day 5: Leave in the morning with your lunch box to Pembe ya swala at the foot of mount Oldonyo Lengai for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Early in the morning at 2:00 am you start climbing mount Oldonyo Lengai, the mountain of God, around 11.00am you come down for your lunch.
Dinner and overnight at Pembe ya Swala.
Day 7: You leave with your picnic lunch box to Kamakia campsite near Lake Natron, evening hours you will be going to see waterfalls, dinner and overnight at Kamakia camp site.
Day 8: A vehicle will be at your camp in the morning ready to take you to Lake Natron to see flamingos and birds.
Afternoon hours you start driving back to Arusha, passing Mto Wa Mbu.
Monduli mountain
The Monduli mountain lies to the northwest of Arusha town, about 35 km, 1 hour drive to the area.
Maasai tribe inhabits the area.
Accommodation in the area is at Maasai bomas where it is safe to tent.
